Escape from the Spirit World: Avatar Yangchen (x)
#so many people still do not get this#the avatar is SUPPOSED to have attachments; the avatar MUST love others#and people talk about how aang ~never makes sacrifices~ but he loses SO MUCH#he sacrifices SO MUCH#he can never completely follow the spiritual teachings and guidance of his people. he cannot attain enlightenment#and he gains so much but he still loses that aspect of his culture and he’s THE LAST PERSON IN HIS CULTURE FOR SO LONG#and the show does talk about this. aang gives up power and he gives up total spiritual harmony#he chooses to love katara. he chooses to go to his friends and protect them.#zuko and aang’s storylines are deliberately designed as foils#zuko’s emotional quest is to find himself. aang’s emotional quest is to accept himself#zuko gives up physical trappings and physical power to gain spiritual strength and peace#while aang gives up spiritual power and enlightenment to gain the strength of attachments to other people#a sacrifice is still a sacrifice even if you gain other things#SORRY THAT IS A WEIRD TANGENT ANYWAY OK

Something’s about to go DOWN.
i think i just realized what lok’s fatal flaw is.. there’s nothing at the end of each season to entice viewers to be like “omg i need to see what happens next”.. like atla had ozai giving azula her mission at the end of book 1 and the earth kingdom falling at the end of book 2. but in korra the end of each book everything is completely resolved and there’s absolutely no tease to make you want to see the next season when it comes back…… i actually can’t think of any other show as an example of there being no tease for the next season in the finale…….. what were they thinking tbh
Book 2 they didnt have an excuse but book 1’s ending is because Nick didn’t officially greenlight books 2,3,4. Thats why it was so rushed. Atleast thats what i’ve heard.
Book 1 and book 2 were each ordered separately, where books 3 and 4 were ordered together (Book 1 was actually supposed to be a stand alone miniseries which is why it was rushed). Each story was written assuming it would be the end, and there wouldn’t be a continuation to tease for.
What I’m hoping for is that books 3 and 4 are somehow connected, possibly even in one single story arc, which would definitely make us want book 4 more considering how they love their cliffhangers.
this is absolutely not an excuse in ANY capacity. when they were making atla they planned the whole three seasons but only got picked up for 13 episodes at first. did they change it to a “mini-series” wrapping up the story in 13 episodes? no, they had faith in their long-term story and weren’t going to compromise and it worked. but if it got cancelled then the blue spirit would have been the last episode of atla.
nick begged them to come back and make a new series, so no bryke didn’t have to “assume it had to end” but the opposite - if they could start a new franchise from scratch and plan the whole thing from the beginning then a spin-off which was 100% guaranteed to be successful would have been even easier to plan long-term and know they would be able to create the whole thing. it ended up like this because that’s what bryke chose
Nickelodeon have decided to give Korra Book 3 a hiatus. On Friday 25th July there will only be one episode airing instead of the previously announced two episode special. After July 25th, Book 3 will be taking a break. It is currently unknown when Book 3 will resume airing.
